    The largest of the Baltic states, Lithuania is part of the Schengen area and a full-fledged member of the EU and of NATO. The country has the euro as its currency. So why is it that it still tends to be a somewhat unknown entity to many outside of central Europe? Plastics News Europe was invited to visit – and came away impressed.

  • Klaipėda FEZ further shortening investors’ launch time with a universal production building

    Klaipėda Free Economic Zone (FEZ) is investing EUR 2.7 into a 6,000 sq. m universal production building for prospective investors, the first of a kind in the Baltics and Poland. It will allow setting up and starting of production within just 3 months. The construction is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2018, and negotiations with two potential tenants from Western Europe and Asia are already underway.

  • Klaipėda FEZ recognized with fDi Intelligence‘s first ever Quick Launch Award

    Klaipėda’s Free Economic Zone (FEZ) secured five awards, including one for Quick Launch opportunities, at the Global Free Zones of the Year 2017 rankings published by Financial Times’ fDi Intelligence service annually since 2010. Klaipėda FEZ has been also recognized for its specialism in the plastics industry, contribution to the national economy, energy efficiency and expansion of its investors.

  • Klaipeda FEZ oriented technology solutions were developed at Hacker Games

    On 22-24th of September, the 9th Hacker Games took place at Klaipeda Science and Technology Park. After 48 hours of non-stop work from around 120 attendees, 23 projects were pitched.

  • CityBee car and bicycle sharing scheme expanded into Klaipėda FEZ

    Five CityBee bicycle pick-up & drop-off points were launched in Klaipėda FEZ, and the CityBee car sharing scheme’s operating area has been expanded into the free economic zone. These steps have further deepened FEZ integration into Klaipėda city and its infrastructure.

  • Purchases by Klaipėda FEZ companies exceeded EUR 200 million in Lithuania

    In 2016, investors operating in Klaipėda Free Economic Zone (FEZ) purchased goods and services for EUR 200,5 million from Lithuanian suppliers, 1,9% more than a year ago. Last year was the first time when purchases by FEZ companies in Lithuania exceeded EUR 200 million.

  • Klaipėda FEZ: the most significant free economic zone for its city in Lithuania

    By the end of 2015, Klaipėda Free Economic Zone accumulated EUR 493 million of foreign direct investment (FDI). This accounts for 57% of the total FDI of Klaipėda City Municipality. In the significance of the free economic zone to its city in terms of the FDI portfolio, Klaipėda is ahead of all the other Lithuanian free economic zones.

  • Every 20th employee in Klaipeda worked in FEZ in 2016

    In 2016 there were 119 companies operating in the Klaipeda free economic zone (Klaipeda FEZ) employing more than 4,000 specialists, of which 2,450 were working in investor-managed companies and 1,500 were employed in service or industry entities operating in the territory of the FEZ and servicing the former. Based on the data of Statistics Lithuania, this means that the FEZ provided jobs to every 20th working-age resident of Klaipeda, or every 40th resident of the Klaipeda region.
