Fortum produces, supplies and sells electrical and heat energy, manages and oversees power stations and other industrial energy production plants, and provides other energy services. The main shareholders of Klaipėda branch is Fortum Heat Lietuva JSC and Klaipėdos Energija JC.
The upcoming task of Fortum Klaipėda JSC is to construct and operate a combined heat and power plant heated by biofuel and waste in Klaipėda free economic zone. The CHP plant is scheduled to be put to operation in January 2013. The main fuel to be used in the plant is utility and non-hazardous industrial waste from Klaipeda region. The plant will also be fed with biofuel, i. e. wood shavings. The new CHP plant will provide heat into the district heat supply system of Klaipėda city. The plant will supply Klaipėda consumers with around 40% of the required annual heat amount. Electricity will be supplied to the joint Lithuanian energy network.
