Public Transport from FEZ Extended to Southern and Northern Klaipeda Districts

27 Mar 2019

Klaipeda FEZ will be much easier to reach using public transport. Klaipeda city municipality has extended and increased the frequency of southern bus n. 22 and added a completely new northern route 22B. New bus schedules will come into force from the 1st of April.

Previously, bus n. 22 was running 4 times daily from the Akropolis shopping centre. From April though, its route will be extended to the very south of Klaipeda with a frequency increase to 7-8 daily departures.

At the same time, a brand new route 22B will be introduced with 6-7 daily departures from the northern part of the city.

Eimantas Kiudulas, the CEO of Klaipeda FEZ, applauds the decision by the municipality to make the zone much more accessible.

‘While we made accessibility efforts such as carsharing scheme and bicycle paths, they were obviously too fractional for our 5500-strong community. Some companies were hiring private carriers for their employees, but again, this solution worked for individual companies, but not for all FEZ. For this reason, I salute the enthusiasm and by the municipality to help our community reach homes and workplaces quicker, faster, cheaper and safer,’ E. Kiudulas said.

Jurgita Berontiene, the service project manager at the Free zone, adds that the routes and schedules were introduced to FEZ companies and now they suit the needs for most of the companies – the ones with early morning, morning, afternoon and evening shifts. Also, a late afternoon departure from FEZ was added for the very first time.

Klaipeda FEZ will further liaise with Klaipeda municipality regarding a Saturday route. Currently, the new routes will run on workdays.
