The year 2013 is one of the most successful years in the history of Klaipėda FEZ

The summarized results of activities of Klaipėda Free Economic Zone (FEZ) in 2013 show successful development and significant contribution to the country’s economy. Companies’ operating in the FEZ turnover of the last year reached LTL 3.08 billion (893 mln. Eur); the export reached LTL 2.5 billion (726 mln. Eur). These are the best results since the commencement of activities of the FEZ. During the year, the FEZ companies’ export grew by 2.4 % and amounted to almost 5 % of the total country’s export. Since the commencement of its activities in 2002, the total value of products exported by the companies operating in the FEZ reached LTL 15 billion (4.3 bln. Eur)

During 2013, the number of new jobs grew by 29 %. At present, the FEZ provides 1800 jobs. 600 more jobs were created by the FEZ companies’ customers who rent facilities.

Since the commencement of activities of the FEZ, the investments by the companies operating in the zone reached LTL 1.8 billion (522 mln. Eur). At present, the FEZ has signed agreements for operation with 28 Lithuanian and foreign companies, 19 have already started their activities in the FEZ.

“This year we don’t stop searching for new investors. At present, we negotiate with 15 new potential investors. We hope to sign agreements with at least three companies till the end of the year. During the next several years we plan to attract LTL 150 million (43 mln Eur) according to already signed agreements“, – says Eimantas Kiudulas, Director General of the Klaipėda FEZ Management Company.

Last year, Klaipėda FEZ signed agreements with two new investors: Ad Rem Port JSC and Ani Plast JSC. At present, both companies perform construction works within the territory of the FEZ. In addition, Vesvela JSC is constructing a new fish processing plant; Baltijos Mėsos Grupės Logistika JSC is implementing production facilities. This year, agreements were signed with two Norwegian companies. HugaasGruppen AS is going to invest LTL 35 million (10 mln Eur) into construction of a metalwork plant. Another Norwegian enterprise, Advantec, will produce oil and gas drilling equipment. The total amount of investment reaches about LTL 17 million (4.9 mln Eur).

In 2013, the combined heat and power plant of Fortum Klaipėda JSC stated operation activities in the FEZ. The activities of the first power plant in the Baltic States fuelled by waste and biofuel has already shown tangible results. According to the data of Klaipėdos Energija JC, the price of the heating services provided to Klaipėda residents has reduced by more than 14 %.

To ensure best convenience for investors, Klaipėda FEZ continuously develops its infrastructure. In 2013, the construction of transformer substation was completed: two 40 MW transformers were built. The amount of investment is LTL 31 million (8.9 mln Eur). At present, the Lypkiai street costing LTL 8 million (2.3 mln Eur) is in the final stage of construction. This year, the FEZ Management Company plans to construct the facilities of a 13 000 sq. m.  for production and warehousing activities.
