08 Jun 2020

Invest Lithuania and Investors’ Forum, a business association uniting largest local and international investors have announced 8 new winners of the annual Investors’ Spotlight initiative that pinpoints study programs suiting the market needs best. Three of the winners were programs by the Klaipeda University.

Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Informatics Engineering bachelor’s degrees by Klaipeda University were the winners of Investors’ Spotlight award this year. In 2019, Klaipeda University’s Mechanical Engineering and Informatics degrees, as well as Informatics Engineering by Klaipeda State University of Applied Sciences were among the winners.

Mantas Katinas, the general manager of Invest Lithuania, says that computer science degrees were of special interest for the jury on top of the engineering programs this year.

“It is important to promote these degrees amongst the youth as these talents are of crucial importance for foreign investors” says M. Katinas.

Over the course of the project, more than 50 representatives of local and international investors analyze and assess the contents of various higher education programs, provide recommendations on improving them and strive to align them with the latest market needs.

This year, NEO GROUP, a major European PET manufacturer, was among the members of the commission.

“We believe that growing talent much more than universities’ responsibility. This process should bring all groups together: from schools to businesses and local communities. And so we find our participation in the Investors’ Spotlight program of major value: our engineers can share their experience and insights, improve our internal processes and bring R&D and theory that take place in universities closer to the market. We hope that the input from Klaipeda’s businesses into polishing the programs will help the broader ecosystem, and students who choose degrees in Klaipeda will continue their careers in companies from this region,” says Ruta Ziliete, NEO GROUP’s HR and Communication director.

Investors’ Spotlight award usually translates into higher enrolment numbers. In the past years, enrolment to awarded programs grew by up to 77%.

Besides three Klaipeda degrees, five more programs from Vilnius and Kaunas were awarded this year. The Investor’s Spotlight initiative seeks to foster collaboration between businesses and academia and to promote degrees that are important to foreign investors.
