Evertis prepares to build a factory in Klaipėda FEZ

12 Mar 2026

Evertis, a company of the Portuguese group IMG Group and one of the global leaders in the PET film sector, plans to start construction of its factory in Klaipėda FEZ in the third quarter of this year and complete it a year later. The second stage is planned after five years, Verslo žinios reports.

Evertis has established UAB Evertis Lithuania, which intends to produce sustainable PET film for the pharmaceutical sector in Klaipėda FEZ.

The planned maximum production capacity will reach up to 48,000 tonnes per year. Production will operate continuously 24/7 across four technological lines, according to the Environmental Impact Assessment documentation.

The project will be implemented in two stages. During the first stage, two production lines will be installed, with two more during the second stage. The start of operations for the first stage of the factory is scheduled for the third quarter of 2027, while the second stage is planned no earlier than five years later.

The project, being implemented on a 1.7-hectare site in Klaipėda FEZ, includes the installation of modern manufacturing equipment, production of high-quality PET-based films, and compliance with environmental standards at all stages of production, Evertis notes. Production capacity will serve both local and international markets.

In 2025, Klaipėda FEZ announced that it had signed an agreement with Evertis, the world’s largest supplier of multilayer PET film for the food and healthcare industries. It was later reported that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development had granted IMG Group a €25 million loan for investments in Klaipėda FEZ.

Evertis Lithuania will manufacture sustainable PET film primarily for healthcare packaging, and will join the existing plastics and packaging cluster operating in the FEZ This includes sourcing raw materials from companies already based in the area. Evertis places a strong emphasis on sustainability, the use of recycled materials and drives innovation with the use of bio-based materials – all defined by circular economy principles and reducing its environmental footprint.

“This is truly another important milestone on our journey to deliver our packaging to the doorsteps of our customers and support the economic growth of the region together. I thank all parties involved in getting to this point in such a positive and productive manner at every stage. This investment in our global Group production footprint will enable us to offer shorter lead times, reduce supply chain risks, and better align with the increasing market demand for packaging solutions that prioritize circularity and environmental responsibility,” said Manuel Matos Gil, IMG Group President, in May 2025.

The Klaipėda FEZ location will allow Evertis to benefit from synergies with major PET producers that have been operating in the area for decades. For example, in 2023, Evertis announced a partnership with Thai polymer company Indorama Ventures to use recycled PET in the production of sustainable food packaging films. Indorama Ventures owns Orion Global PET, a major PET manufacturer based in Klaipėda FEZ.

Evertis is part of the IMG Group, a privately owned company with over 65 years in the polymers industry and a proven track record of leveraging their expertise and advanced technologies to deliver innovative solutions. This current announcement from the IMG Group follows a number of recent expansion and diversification strategies for the integrated Group. During 2024 the Group has seen existing asset expansion within its copolyester producing business, Selenis, at their plant in Fayetteville, NC, and the launch of the Evercare® and Selcare® brands to provide packaging solutions for the healthcare industry.
